• Epic tour of the loom
• Pet an alpaca
• Enjoy some tea or coffee with cake
Welcome to the world of alpacas! Originally from South America, these lovable creatures form part of the camel family and were introduced to South Africa in 2000. Smaller than llamas, alpacas come in amazing 12 colours and have an average back height of 1 metres and weigh around 65kgs!
This great adventure will include an exciting barn tour where you will be able to meet the resident herd and learn some interesting facts regarding alpacas. These beautiful animals produce super soft wool, which is lightweight and very warm. Tour through the loom room where ladies are hard at work spinning and weaving.
You will also have an opportunity to visit the gift shop where a selection of hand-made scarves, blankets and stunning shawls are on display. The alpacas are sheared every year, each producing around 2 kg of fleece! The fibre is carefully sorted, cleaned and carded before it is spun and made into garments.
After all the excitement, there will be time for the adults to enjoy some freshly brewed coffee or a pot of tea, enjoy this with a slice of delicious cake, while you watch the kids having fun on the jungle gym.
